14TH AND QUAKER

I have had this abstraction of Bruce Goff's McGregor House, located at 14th and Quaker in Tulsa, OK in my head since 2008, when I lived down the street from the McGregor House. Back then, it was in bad shape, but even so, I was obsessed with its lines. The way it takes the trademarks of Prairie Style and pushes them to their limits, the way the piers, gables, and cornices rise almost chaotically upwards, how the situation of the house on a hill makes the whole thing feel like it's about to float away. Not to mention the strange contrast of this amazing piece of architecture overlooking a huge sunken highway. The house has now been lovingly restored, and is well worth a look.
